Name and age: Sarah Kaldor, 27

Member at: Farmgirlfit Spokane

Occupation: Mental Health Counselor, specializing in working with children and families.

Words that inspire me? "Every person you meet, every single one, is looking for their story. There are no exceptions. You become part of it by how you treat them." Reminds me to be kind and non-judgmental.

Tell us about how you came to Farmgirlfit: I’d seen articles about Farmgirlfit online and also had known people who had been members. All the information I’d seen and heard about it was positive and intrigued me; I was ready to try something new. I liked that lifting weight and increasing strength seemed to be an integral part of the philosophy. I’d always wanted to do more weight lifting but never really knew what I was doing on my own. I wasn’t an athlete growing up (my siblings got those genes) and had yo-yo’d off and on with exercising throughout my life. In the past I’d go for two or three months, fall off for a few months, and then repeat the cycle. With none of my previous regimes keeping me interested and motivated enough to stick with it for the long run, I was ready to try something more structured, more challenging and, from what I could see, more fun!

What has been your greatest fitness/performance accomplishment so far?

Honestly, probably the fact that I’ve stuck with FGF for so long. Other than that I feel proud every time I’m able to lift a little bit heavier or move a little bit faster.

What inspires you to be fit?

My future. I don’t want to get to a point in my life where I can’t do the things I enjoy because I didn’t take care of myself earlier on.

What are your next health and fitness goals?

To continue to do well with eating healthy, making sure the calories I take in are nourishing my body to keep working hard. Also, to be able to do a pull-up with no bands!

Favorite exercise at FGF is: I really like doing dead-lifts. I find myself being more aware of how my muscles are engaging while I’m doing them and they make me feel strong. I also find I really enjoy rowing…something must be wrong with me! ;-)

Least favorite exercise at FGF is: Turkish Get Ups, I think my height might be working against me here because they feel like they take me forever to do.

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is: Everything! Well, except those TGUs. Seriously though, the trainers are so inspiring and motivating. They push you for that extra rep or heavier weight in the most positive of ways and know you can do it even if you yourself aren’t quite sure yet. I always enjoy the other members I get a chance to meet as well. It’s nice to work out with a group of strong, encouraging, and fun women whose kind words and warm smiles make it that much easier to keep going when you feel like your butt is getting kicked! I also love how the Grind is always different. It keeps me from getting bored, which keeps me coming back!

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

In the professional part of my life I work with young kids, teens, and young adults as a mental health counselor. I truly feel fortunate to be in a career that gives my life meaning and also feel I’ve found “my calling” so to speak. That cliché saying about if you do what you love for work you never work a day again in your life is so true for me. Except for the paperwork part though, that definitely feels like work ;-) In my personal life I enjoy spending time with friends, family, and my two year old Golden Retriever, Lady. I tend to be more of a homebody in the winter but once the weather gets nice you’ll find me outdoors a lot of the time. I enjoy hiking, camping, and most of all fly-fishing! I also like to cook and bake when I get the time.

You might not know this about me: I graduated with my Masters degree when I was 21. I took it for granted a little bit at the time but the older I get the more I’m able to recognize how big of an accomplishment that was and I feel pretty proud.

What advice do you have for new members?

Tell yourself you can do it, because you can! The more you stick with it you will get stronger, healthier, and more confident. You deserve that!
